Definition Of Crudge

According to the online Urban Dictionary, Crudge has a variety of definitions. Now, I thought I was being clever when I decided to use the word in naming my google account. The account itself was meant to be a throwaway: one I created to set up a couple other accounts. Then I began to use the account's "google maps" to help me plan my latest European adventure. Then I decided to use the "Blogger" feature of this google account. Now, while google accounts are always rather throwaway, it's no longer so disposable.

I expect that I'll use this blog as a travelogue, a "travelblogue", if you will, which will allow my friends to keep up with what I'm doing while I'm travelling.

I really have no interest in maintaining a regular journal of my every thought, etc. Facebook has that covered, and I can't bear to use that site too much. Internet citizens tend to post too much; we tend to think that our every mood, thought and adventure is worthy of publication. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, if you like doing the time-consuming maintenance required, but for myself, I find the process of blogging, friending, twitting, etc, to be too much like work, and not too much fun, once the initial novelty has worn off.

So, this blog will more than likely not get posted to too often, unless I'm lucky enough to get to travel more than I do. I'm at about one trip every two years.

Now, let me return to the title of this introductory blog: What is a Crudge?

I chose the name Crudge McFudge for the throwaway google account because it a) sounded funny. Any word or name with Mc in it makes me smile. Why? Dunno, but I refer you to Superbad's wonderful "McLovin". There, I caught you smiling, too; and b) it wasn't taken yet.

Then, after a few weeks of using the account, building maps, learning the features of an email account that isn't merely an email account, I decided I'd look up the definition of Crudge, if there was one. I thought I'd heard it used as a word before, so I wasn't under any delusions that I'd invented such a funny sounding thing. The various meanings of "Crudge", however, seemed almost too perfect, as though I had in fact made it all up.

Here's what that online urban dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=crudge) has to say:

Definition 1: to hog a joint or to generally be stingy.
" i wish you'd stop crudging me out and pass the spliff."
" pass the joint you crudge."

Definition 2: jockstrap
"hoisted out the crudge"

Definition 3: a feeble boy who is generally "uncool"
"get out of my way you fucking crudge"

Well, these definitions really appealed to me! I thought, wow, that about describes me. I can be stingy (love the pot reference, too). And while I don't own a jockstrap, nor have I ever, I may in fact be rather feeble and uncool. So I felt a sense of pride in owning the name: Crudge McFudge.

Then, in an attempt to fully master the word, which I'm still not entirely convinced is used other than as slang, I looked up "Crudger", after all, if my blogging alter-ego is named Crudge, then I'm claiming to be a "crudger", right.

So, back to the above-cited Urban Dictionary:

Crudger Definition 1: A foxy, toothless midget that runs around video games looking for hidden spaces
"I just saw that Crudger fall off that hill, and he has such a cute corpse."

Definition 2: derogatory term for an American.
"That stupid crudger just asked what language they speak in England!"

Fucking perfect!

Now, aside from the obvious British slant of all these definitions, I am amazed to discover that yes, a Crudger is a travelling American!

And I think anyone travelling should be a bit dumb, self-effacing, with a sense of humour about himself. However, how a crudger got to be a midget who plays video games with hidden levels, etc, is beyond me, but the statement that, as a crudger, I might in fact have a cute corpse is awesome. I want it on a t-shirt: "Cute Corpse", along with a picture of a dead Mario with a joint still clutched in his greedy little hand.

So, there's my first blog. It's not much about travel, but now that the account is set up, I think you can see what you're gonna get from a stupid crudger like me in a blog like this!

Now pass the spliff, and where the hell did that midget go...

Travel safe!
